motivation and background.

Modrn is an envisioned mobile furniture e-commerce app that aims to redefine the furniture shopping experience for customers through the use of AR technology. The motivation behind this project arose from recognizing the increasingly digital lifestyle of consumers and their growing preference for shopping online. With furniture being a significant and often costly investment, customers need a solution that allows them to visualize and understand the product thoroughly before making a purchase.

the problem.

Most furniture e-commerce platforms struggle to provide an intuitive user experience. Users often find it difficult to visualize how a piece of furniture might fit or look within their existing space. Moreover, overwhelming choices, ambiguous descriptions, and complicated navigation structures make the online furniture shopping experience tedious and confusing.

the design process.

The design process for Modrn was cyclical, involving iterative stages of empathy, ideation, prototyping, and testing. I began with empathizing with the users by conducting user interviews, surveys, and collecting data on their shopping behaviors and pain points. Common themes emerged around issues like lack of spatial visualization, unclear product details, and tedious checkout procedures. Based on these insights, I embarked on the ideation phase, sketching user flows, and wireframes, and gradually refining these into high-fidelity mockups. A feature that stood out was an AR-driven 'View in Room' option that allowed users to place a 3D model of the furniture in their space, using the device's camera. This solution aimed to overcome the visualization problem faced by users while shopping for furniture online. After developing a preliminary design, it was time for prototyping. Using tools like Figma and InVision, I created an interactive prototype that allowed me to simulate the user experience.
